Hey everyone. 

I'm having another problem.  This time it's with the new Pleo. 

Whenever I wake Pearl up, no matter what time it is...she only stays awake for about 10 minutes before going to sleep, and actually putting herself into power down mode. 

For example, when I got her I set her noon time and it would have been about 5:00 PM.  We play with her for short durations, 15-20 minutes at a time twice a day, and usually we're petting her the whole time. 

However, today, I wanted to just let her be on her own for a while to see what she would do. 

I got her up, and 10 minutes later she was napping, but actually went into shut down mode. 

So I woke her back up, and just to be 100% sure I set her noon time again.  I set the noon time at 4:53 PM.  At 5:06 PM, she went to sleep and beeped once to let me know she had actually shut down. 

Is it normal for these to only stay awake for 10 minutes or so if you are not physically interacting with them??  She also doesn't seem to want to eat very much.  I'm not sure exactly how many full battery cycles I've put through her, as it's hard to tell when I'm using her the way I am. 

I'm starting to get a bit frustrated, and wondering if maybe I should just call it quits and get my money back while I still can.  I had thought that you were supposed to be able to wake them up and they would kind of do their own thing for a while...isn't that correct?

The shutting down with one beep means she has gone to sleep herself as she thinks it is nighttime and she will wake again about 9hours later (I think).  When you are setting the noon clock do you have her turned on?  I turn my guys on, wait till they start to wriggle then poke the paperclip in the hole to press the button.  You should hear a beep which lets you know the clock has reset.   If you have been doing it while she is off it might not have been working.  If this is the case then try this and let us know or let us know this is what you were doing

I reset her noon battery with her on, and I heard the beep.  I was just able to keep her awake for over 20 minutes while interacting with her the whole time. 

I just reset her noon time again, and I'm leaving her on her own to see if she goes to shut down mode again.

Okay she's been up for a while now.

Does she have a sensor that might tell if its dark that would make her go to sleep??  I realized that both times she shut herself down she was in an area where it wasn't really bright, so maybe she thought she was in a dark room?

I believe the RBs do go to sleep when they sense it's dark, though it's been a while since I had an RB!

That would make sense - I've had trouble running all my 'bots because my house is so dark.  They do much prefer a brightly lit room.

Well, she ended up powering down one more time, but it was after quite some time and again when I put her in a spot without much direct light.

While I had her in direct light, she took a nap but went over 40 minutes with no interactions and a few naps and never shut down. 

I guess maybe my house is too dark for her.  I will keep checking times before auto shutdown over the next couple of days.

A hot battery will also cause a shutdown, so just check if the battery feels hot to touch and maybe let her have a cool down if it is.

Okay everyone, it HAS to be when Pearl is in lower light that she puts herself to "sleep" for the evening with the single beep shutdown.

I turned on my wife's reading lamp, and had Pearl on the table in front of me...so she was in plenty of light. 

I had been playing with her for about an hour or so, and when I put her on the table she settled right in...but not after wiggling herself off of the table and onto the floor about 20 inches below!!!  I was able to catch her and slow her fall pretty good, and she doesn't show any signs of injury.  She doesn't want the rock salt, she still ate her leaf, she wanted to be held, and she played tug of war with me...so I don't think she hurt herself.  Man, she wiggled off the table quickly!!  I had turned around to go get her leaf and when I looked back she was teetering on the edge, and as I jumped back to the table she fell off the edge...as mentioned, I slowed her down with my hand, but didn't completely catch her.  I think she's okay, though.  No damage...people have to have these things fall from time to time...it's even mentioned in the manual that she could have gotten hurt by falling!!  I think I ended up lucky...I'll make sure to watch her more closely, and set her on the floor if I need to walk away. 

Anyways, after getting her all tested out again with the toys and food to make sure she wasn't hurt, she settled right in and took a nap. 

I stopped interacting with her at 12:14 AM, and she settled into her nap at 12:24 AM.  Now, this evening just a few minutes after that and she was "beeping" herself to sleep for the night.   But when she had brighter light that was shining on her, she then napped until 1:26 AM, at which point I stroked her back and she woke right up and ate, then I put her to bed for the evening. 

So, in more "normal" amounts of light, she napped for over an hour without going into single beep "sleep" mode. 

With this in the books, I'm SURE it has to be the amount of light in the room I have her in.  I'll think about getting a few brighter light bulbs.  To be honest, after I figured it was the lights, I started looking around and thought "You know, it actually IS pretty dang dark in here...how have I never noticed this??"  Kind of funny, actually!!
