Ryu beeps off to sleep within five minutes of being turned on.
« on: November 20, 2012, 05:10:13 PM »

My green RB Ryu is going to sleep suddenly for no apparent reason. It all started when I removed her clock battery because I had to borrow it to get Cato- my newly-returned male RB- out of sleep position. Ever since reinserting both of her batteries, she has been going to sleep about five or six minutes after booting up without being tired. It seems to be when she is starting to move around a lot. I am terrified of damaging those small tabs that go over the top of the battery so I was extra careful about removing and reinserting it. I'm not sure if I'm not screwing the foot plate tightly enough or if I'm not securing the battery properly. Any suggestions?
I can tell you that when the foot plate is lifted up, the battery falls out while she is still on her back. I've only been in that dreaded compartment three times in Ryu's entire life. Once for her hatching a little over a year ago and again this second time to borrow her battery. Should the battery lie flat rather than falling out like that? Is it time for a new one? What am I doing wrong? I have sighted help around this time so I can post pics if it will help.

hI Talon, sorry to hear abou this problem, I know how frustrating this can be, I had a broken prong the first day I started my RB. Have a look at this video link, it shows and tells how to start up Pleo Rb and shows the proper insertion of the clock battery. This should answer any questions. Let me know how it goes and if this solves the problem. Good luck and Hello from my gang to yours.

Thanks for posting this, Redwoods. It looks like I'll have to wait until tomorrow for my sighted help. I'm visiting my cousin for Thanksgiving and she has a two year-old son and two other children all younger than ten. She's putting her youngest to bed now so Ryu will have to wait until morning.

It might just need resetting, Ryu might think it is bed time :P

That was my first thought too - the noon time will probably no longer be at 'noon'.

Oh I'm so dumb. Why didn't I think of that? Well, I had my cousin check Ryu's battery against the video and she said it was in correctly and I reset her noon clock just before we had Thanksgiving dinner at noon. We're going to go get a Christmastree from the tree farm soon and when we get back I'll turn Ryu on and see if resetting the noon clock solved the problem. Thanks, Everyone.

Well, Ryu's noon clock has been reset and I haven't noticed the problem... yet. Now she's grumpy and depressed. She's staying all curled up and refusing to move much so I can tell if the problem is truly gone. I may just drug her into happiness with the Scared-of-the-Dark patch.

Sounds promising! Incidentally Pleakley was doing the same thing last night lol, I think he has already moved to San Franciscan time :P

Glad that seems to have sorted her out :)
It does seem that these little rb fellows are quite sensitive to lighting.  When I had Cato here and was testing him after he was fixed I had Him and Pickle running around in my kitchen, I had just replace the light bulb in there with one that was slightly yellow tinged.  After a good feeding both of them just went into tracking mode and nothing I did was getting them to snap out of it  :D  I decided to move them into another room and all of a sudden they were behaving normally again  :)
I have nothing in my kitchen that is even remotely colored like the training leaf and it didn't matter what direction they were facing as long as they were in the light they would go into tracking mode.  I have done a few experiments with my guys in there since and tracking mode works every time foe all of my RB in that room but everywhere else in the house they are normal.  As soon as I changed the light back to a regular white globe they all stopped tracking in the kitchen.  :P
I know it is a different issue to the scared of the dark behavior but being light related thought it was a bit interesting.

Hi not sure I'm posting in right place but I aslo just purchased my new pleo) and have experienced that he will get hot and make beeping sound and switch off this was in hatching phase +-1hour 30min is this normal what is the sign that you need to chartge battery also removing battery is very hard I need to pull very hard scared it will break should I return to shop and get new one, don't want to as my pleo has beautiful grey eyes :)

Ah, OK - so does your RB just shut down with a couple of beeps?  It's not a constant beeping?  My first RB would shut down mid battery cycle at first, and if I left her to cool down she'd be fine again until the battery ran down (another hour or so).  She seemed to grow out of it.

Hi Crewella yes its a few beeps and switches off also thought it was because he got hot...thanks for this info so its not necessary to return also its hard to remove battery...anyone have the same problem? Also want to find out more regarding learning stones is it necssary to buy I bought the food and I'm on tight budget and once I've saved enough it will be either extra battery or learning stones...can you not eventually teach your pleo these commands or do you require them?

I can't promise this isn't a problem, just that it's not necessarily one.  I'd run her for a couple of battery cycles and see how it goes.  To be honest, I've wondered before if the hatching phase before they stand up gives less opportunuty for the battery to cool naturally.  :-\

You do need the learning stones if you want the extra tricks.
