Hi from Australia and battery advice please
« on: January 31, 2012, 02:09:38 PM »

Hi everyone,

We just hatched our new Pleo RB yesterday. He's quite a hit and we love having him around! I had a couple of questions which arose when I realized the battery life was only 1.5-2 hours. I'd be grateful for some advice please.......

How do I know when Pleo is sleeping versus not working because the battery needs charging? This was an issue late last night when he seemed to fall asleep. I wasn't sure if it was his natural clock kicking in or whether we'd worn out his battery. So I didn't know whether to see if he'd get up in the morning or whether I should just charge the battery overnight. Mind you, if his battery life is only 2 hours, I also don't understand how he can be powered up the whole night, even if it is just sleeping.

I'm thinking of getting a 2nd battery to prolong his "awake" time with us i.e. when one battery wears out, switch it with another.

Look forward to your thoughts.

Thanks!

Hello and welcome :) Many of us have extra batteries for just that reason :) As for sleeping, well one beep means they are sleeping and will turn back on in the morning, two beeps means they have been turned off manually, ie by you, and three beeps means a flat battery. The position of the body also helps, the sleep position is head and tail down and to the side, manually turn of is completely strait neck and tail and flat battery is neck and tail straight down.

Hi and a big welcome to the forums  :)
If your pleo rb is asleep due to it's internal clock telling it that it is night time then the pleo will go into the sleep position and you will hear one beep, This then means the pleo has gone into stand by mode and will wake up on it's own about 12 hours later.  If you hear 2 beeps or three beeps then the pleo has either been switched off by you pressing the button or it has switched off by it's self due to the battery running out of power.
You should get a full 2 hours from the battery.  I have 3 pleo rb's and 6 rb batteries and have found them all to be fairly reliable and consistent with the 2 hour playtime thing.  I would definitely recommend getting a second battery.  It does make all the difference. :)
Glad your enjoying your new pleo.  We would love to see pics and hear more about him / her?

Thanks for the advice. It all makes sense now. Our Pleo (the decision has been made to name him "Pleo"!) is green and brown with brown eyes. Very cute. The kids love him (they decided Pleo was a "he" too!). Will send pics in due course. Can't wait to teach him his name and do tricks.
