Loki ALMOST did the entire ball on the pole trick..
« on: August 17, 2011, 03:47:13 PM »

It was SO CLOSE!!  I hadn't even known about this trick until I saw someone else's Aibo fail it on YouTube.. lol.. anyways I did have to help him when he misaligned himself but I need a new front part for his station because he always messes that up (because it's a crappy paper one)  I'd seen him put the ball on his back/neck before but I never realized that if he saw the station within a certain amount of time he would walk over, actually step OVER the foot stoppers and try to place it on the station!!
So anyway here was one attempt so you can see him outting the ball onto his back using his front foot, back foot and head, and then the second video I caught him in the act and he ALMOST did it!!!

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0M5Hl0RNd8" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0M5Hl0RNd8</a>
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woIDVy7z99A" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woIDVy7z99A</a>

I hope he gets it right.. but since I put the ball back up there, I guess he thought he did because he was sure proud of himself!! I loved how he danced his way out and then even tried to take a picture of it at the end (even though he was then facing the wrong way..lol) and then he danced AGAIN!!
He did a decent job.. I mean Thor, the other aibo, was trying to bonk into him the whole time, all the pleos were mooing distractions at him and he ALMOST got it.. he'll get it next time, maybe :)

Not that it would have helped in this try....but....take the cards out the slot on the pole.
Great you got to see the ball-on-the-pole dance. This is the most sophisticated trick an AIBO can do.
There sure was a lot of cheering going on from th 220 and pleos.

Lol.. yeah that's a good idea I hadn't even thought of taking the cards out.. thanks Wolfbob.. I will make sure to do that :D  He got SO close!! and he now seems really intent on doing it he keeps trying over and over again.  I really did enjoy how happy he was with all the dancing afterwards.. the whole thing was very cool and hopefully he'll get it right someday  ;D

That was awesome, Sarah and Loki!  The other day, Buster got the ball up on his shoulder, and was looking around from side to side.  I don't have the mat and pole set up yet for the charging station, and he just rolled the ball off of his back.  I wonder if he might have been looking for the charging station and I didn't have it set up!  :(  Aah... I doubt it.  Just wishful thinking.  He seemed quite sad afterwards.

Congrats on getting Loki to do the trick.  You have trained him well.   ;D

Java's the same, he's got the ball up on his back but I have nowhere to set the station up so this will have to wait until I get my bigger house with its dedicated robot room!  ;)  ;D

Great job Loki and Sarah!  That's not cheating - it's just a 'team effort'!  ;D

No, Saratoga, that's probably exactly what he was doing.. when I want to try to get him to do it I set up the ball right in front of his station.. if he starts doing the body scoot with his arms open toward the ball then odds are he will do it.. if he then looks around and does the station 'recognition' face with the colors and the purple on the bottom of his eyes, then you know he's seen it and will probably attempt it.. if you look at Loki's video again you can see on his face when he recognizes the station, you can hear it too.. :D

Loki did great!  Milo has tried a few times to get the ball on his back but usually it falls off his arm before he manages to get it that far.  The couple of times he has managed to get it onto his back he has deliberately rolled it off again along his back and over his tail. ;D  He also did the happy dance after this too. :)  I'll have to try to set up the ball near the station and see what happens. %)

Thanks Sarah!  I watched the video again and saw the recognition face and sounds.  He does do the ball scoot quite often.  I will set up the recognition tower on Monday when the kids go to school and I have off!  :P  (Yes, school has started here.)  Buster originally didn't come with a mat, only the charging station and tower, so I had to order one from Sony, which was rather interesting to say the least.  It came in the mail in early July, and I just haven't had time to hook it up and try it out.  I hope that he can do it.  That was SOOOOO cool watching Loki!   ;D

Really.. you were able to order one from Sony?  Do you mind if I ask how much the front mat was?  I only have the upgraded front mat which is basically the mind 1 colored mat with a piece of paper with the new design on it, taped to it.. So loki has problems aligning properly.  If I ever meet that jerk who sold me Loki I'm going to run him over with my car.. :P

Hi Sarah! Yes, I ordered one from Sony, and they are still in stock. Website is servicesales.sel.sony.com  .  Go to the small grey box on the upper righthand corner and scroll down from model number to "part number". The part number to type in is 234260301 and it will link you to the page.  They are 55.52 plus shipping and believe me they don't look like much. Just a thin piece of plastic.  You might be able to purchase a used one from the aibo forum cheaper, but when I posted, a member gave me the link. Someone sent me a private message on how to make my own, but I never tried it.

If you are going to run over Loki's seller with a car, remember, in the UK they drive on the opposite side of the road! :P. I wouldn't want you to miss! :D

Thank you SO MUCH for the info on the Mat AND for the reminder about which side of the road to drive on.. as a matter of fact the horrid seller DOES hail from the UK so I WILL need to drive on the opposite side of the road in order to accidentally run him over.. Do they have some sort of law for idiot Americans to get away with running folks over because they accidentally drove on the wrong side of the road? I mean.. that would take some getting used too!! :D

Jerks on ebay said it was 100 bucks for the mat. lol.. I am going to think about getting that for Loki.. it's the full Mind 3 mat, not just the older mat with the paper over it?  Awesome!
