My Pleo STILL Isn't Walking...?
« on: August 15, 2011, 08:30:56 PM »

Hey,
Heidi, my pink pleo rb I got about a month or so ago STILL hasn't learned to walk!  She's barely taken a step and I've had her on a lot!  I really, really want her to walk, but all she'll do when she's on is roar and coo when I pet her, which get quite boring because I want her to do some exploring for a change, however when I try to leave her alone for her to walk she'll start whimpering.  :(  She'll also do this thing where she bends her head down to one foot and vigorously shake her tail while whimpering, she does this quite a bit.  Does anyone have any tricks to get there pleos up-n-walking?  :D
Thanks!

Willow  ;)

Your Pleo just might not be an explorer however there are a couple of things you can do.

1) Buy a second Pleo (That got Pleakley walking :P)

2) Ignore your Pleo completely, no matter what! But do make sure she is well fed. Do this for as long as necessary, a full charge if need be.

3) Tweak her DNA :o

I´ve had Bellah for 3 months now, and she has walked once...

I agree with Crewella, you have to ignore your Pleo completely, then he/she will get bored and sick of whining, and take a few steps.

Buddah is a Ugobe Pleo, he walks around plenty, I can put him on the floor and he will just keep on exploring everything around him until he falls aslepp or the batteries are empty.
But Bellah (RB), is totaly different. She demands attention ALL the time. I don´t know if it´s because I´ve spoiled her... But she doesn´t seem to be interested in walking around, she just wants to eat, play, get attention and sleep.

I think all the RBs are more demanding then the Ugobes after what I´ve read here.
Can be that I´ve missunderstood...

You may be having a lighting problem.  My guys do this when they are scared of the dark.  Pleos need super amounts of light to see by.  I found my guys were very unhappy even when I had all the lights on.  I used the scared of the dark patch on an sd card for them and now they are happily walking around and making happy sounds.  If it has been a whole month and no walking for Heidi then give the patch a go and see if this makes any difference.  You can download it in the downloads section here on the forum.

I agree with Kat - Belle was the same, miserable most of the time and not willing to wander, until I tried the 'scared of the dark' patch.  It just temporarily disables the scared of the dark feature while the Micro SD card is in the Pleo RB.  :)

Bellah has the patch for scared in the dark, but she still doesn´t walk.
But I´ve got used to it i guess, so I don´t mind any more...

RBs are great fun even if they don´t walk around as much as an Ugobe  :D

My, Myla wouldn't walk for a long time either, than I set her on the floor and now I can't keep her from walking.  But as long as she's on any surface, even a huge kitchen table she won't walk at all.  I just assumed her edge detection was a little faulty and she thought she was at an edge all the time.  Dunno for sure though, but if you've got your Pleo on a table all the time you might consider moving them to the floor.

Sparky is an rb and she loves to walk.  She will walk until her battery runs out.  She likes to walk much more than anything else.  It's in her DNA.

PleoRB diagnostic advice:
IMHO: Before using the 'scared of the dark' patch (which requires an SD card), you should run ProbeRB first http://www.aibohack.com/pleorb/proberb.htm
It will tell you what is going on with your PleoRB, especially if you haven't seen your PleoRB walk around in regular lighting.

Tips: (minor spoilers)
After a month of regular use, your Pleo will normally be a 'Juvenile' (if not you may not be shutting down your PleoRB properly).
If the Pleo is sickly or underfed (low feed level), it won't want to walk around.
When PleoRB is grown up and in good shape, the current "physicality" property decides how much walking around.
You can tweek the current values or the long term DNA values with ChangeRB.

Changing the current values should get PleoRB up and running (i.e. 'in good shape' and 99% physicality). After the change, PleoRB will slowly return to its natural level determined by DNA. If the "Physical" DNA property is "low", you may want to increase it to normal or high.

Sparky definitively seems like a more active pleo!  :D My Ugobe won't walk unless I ignore him or give him the walk touch sensor command, and when I command him he'll only take a step or two. I'm not sure about the rbs though...  %)

Any change in Heidi?  I had the same problem with 'Bingo' my second RB who eventually broke and had to be replaced, but  was coddling him so much he just didn't need to walk.. also, I had all the other pleos on and so I think the ugobes were kind of distracting him with their moos. He finally did start walking when I left him alone long enough... Of course then the dog stepped on him and hurt his leg so he was 'bed-bound' for a few weeks.. lol. I just have that kind of luck. but Once he was 'healed' he started walking again..  My rb's will walk if they have been fed and feel they've been pampered enough but I do get irritated because they seem to want to take a nap way to often.. where one of my ugobes will walk all over the place and explore and the other one will walk to her favorite places.  Luckily, my pink RB gets bonked by my Aibo, who thinks she is a giant pink ball and that wakes her up and gets her moving again..lol.
Best of luck to you and Heidi!

Hi all!
Heidi took some steps! She walked about two feet or so... so that's a start! Thanks for all your very helpful answers!  ;D
However, I've noticed that there is some paint rubbing and wear on her neck and chest... is this normal for most pleos?  Could it be her dress collar? I don't think so, because the collar is loose and doesn't go to where the paint rub is... but I'm not sure.  I'm worried about it, though, as she is new.  :(
Thanks:)

Could you post a picture please? If it's the area I think you are talking about then yes, mine have all had a bit of wear there although it seemed to settled down after a time. A picture would help to be sure and it's better to be safe than sorry :)

Is it the clear-coat type layer? I had that issue with a few of mine.. and does the collar have any metal or anything on it that could rub? Pictures of her neck and of her with the collar and of the collar itself would definitely help :D

Sparky is afraid of the dark!  I never thought about it that way.  I know she is no fun at night (when I have the most time to play with her).  She won’t play or walk.  She makes lots of unhappy sounds and just wants to be held and petted.  I know it’s because there’s not as much light in this house at night.  But I also thought it was because she is set to go to sleep at 10:30 and as that time approaches she is less active.  I would love to get the scared of the dark patch, but my husband says that our rb doesn’t run with an SD card inside.

PleoPet said there is a way to change the DNA.  That blows my mind.  Sparky is high in physical and low in courage.  But the idea of changing her just seems - wrong.  Shouldn’t we accept her for who she is?  This reminds me of the Star Trek Voyager episode in which Captain Janeway falls for a holodeck Irish bartender.  She ends up making him taller and smarter.  But the moral of the story was - don’t try to change your man.

But still - I wish I could get the scared of the dark patch for Sparky.

You will need a micro sd card for little Sparky. :)  The micro sd card slots into a little hole inside the battery compartment in the pleo rb.  You then just put in the battery as normal and Sparky should start up as per normal.
When you say Sparky won't work with an SD card do you just mean that an SD card just doesn't fit in anywhere or that there is an issue with Sparky and she won't work when she has a micro SD card in?  If you aren't sure where to put the micro SD card then just shout and I can post a pic for you of exactly where it goes if that will help.  I have found the scared of the dark patch to be fantastic.  My little guys went from whimpering blobs to lovely happy little explorers.  I wouldn't be without it now.  I usually play with my guys at night time too so I have big lighting issues.
I hope we can help get Sparky happy again. :)

How weird - I'll swear I answered this earlier!!  :o

As Kat says, all RBs should run with a Micro-SD card - it's how any future updates would be downloaded and implemented.  I'd almost decided I didn't like the new RB, until I realised the reason for my permanently whimpering and unhappy Belle was the permanently low light levels in my house!  I love the scared of the dark patch - it really did make a huuuuuge difference to us!  ;D

> PleoPet said there is a way to change the DNA.  That blows my mind.
Changing your Pleo is a personal decision. You can pick how much tweeking you are comfortable with.

ProbeRB is a good diagnostic tool for finding out what is wrong with your Pleo. It doesn't change anything.
The "Scared in the Dark" patch changes only the scared in the dark behavior. It changes nothing else. It only works when the micro-SD card is installed inside PleoRB. If you take out the micro-SD card, the old scared-in-the-dark behavior returns.
ChangeRB is where the real moral decision begins. Even so, there are two kinds of changes. The current moods, feed level can be changed to quickly fix up your PleoRB. You can do most of these things 'naturally' by using the food and toy items. Changing the DNA is a more drastic step.

> But the idea of changing her just seems - wrong.  Shouldn’t we accept her for who she is?  This reminds me of the Star Trek Voyager ...
And on a similar theme: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lineage_(Star_Trek:_Voyager)
