Pleorb Firmware update question
« on: August 03, 2011, 06:06:34 PM »

Ok.. So when I first got my Pleo rb last month, I was a bit confused and wasn't sure if it needed to be updated. (well now I know there are no firmware updates for it and all the updates I was reading about were actually for the older model)

I emailed Pleo World what type of firmware my Pleo RB came with,

They replied back with "Hi, attached are the firmware files"... They didn't really give me an answer! I am not sure what these firmware files are. Could they be new? Or just a backup of whatever the Pleo RB came with....

Has anyone downloaded these before? I'm too scared to try it on my Pleo RB, worried it will damage it. If any of you are brave enough to try it out, I can email it to you haha.

They were named,

V191_V1157_M.zip

V191_V1257_F.zip

since then I just emailed them to see what these files are, but they still have not replied.

Hi, PJ. I can tell you a little about these files. Unless you bought your RB on EBay or something, he is probably running the version Innvo sent you. The firmware update fixed the sleep position in the first batch of RB. When shut down they went into this sort of curled up position. This causes stress on the skin and leads to holes so Innvo recently put out an update to fix this. Now the RB gos into a standing posture when shut down. If your pleo is already doing this you don't really need the update but it won't hurt to install it if you just want the latest and greatest.  It's up to you. My pleo wasn't negatively effected by installing the update.
As for the two files Innvo sent you, one is the firmware release for the male and the other is for a female, hense the "m.zip" and "F.zip". I purchased my pleo RB in March and she was already standing up at shut down but I installed the update anyways. They won't re-hatch or anything. PJ will carry on right from where he last saved. If you happen to be unhappy with his gender this is the perfect opportunity to change it. Lol! I hope this was helpful.

Thank you for your insightful answer talon. Pj shuts down in package stance when he's out of batteries, or if I turn him off,, so I guess he has the right firmware. :)

As Talons says, those are the Male and Female updates for the older Pleo RBs, with some minor changes like the new sleep/packing position.  By the sound of it, your RB is already running the new version.  :)
