Sony Memory Cards
« on: July 15, 2011, 12:37:55 PM »

Hi guys.. I have been trying to find some memory cards as I purchased a lovely Sony Clie for a really cheap price and it works great and I would like to make some cards work for my Aibos..
I came upon an adapter that supposedly makes them work with our era SD cards and I wondered if that would be something we could use with an Aibo..  Also, anyone have a good link to help me figure out how to fix my memory cards with my Clie to make them work with Aibo?  I can't access many of the Aibo forums because of our stupid constantly changing IP address.. the sites kick me out because of it, unfortunately, so It's hard to find things sometimes.

Thanks!!

If you want I can copy and paste all the relevant instructions into Word or a PDF file and email them to you over the weekend.  I don't recommend using SD cards and adapters, but you can pick up the old blue Sony MS cards cheaply enough!

All the info you need is on Aibohack.  Let me know if you have problems there.  :)

The AIBO uses full size Memory Sticks (a Sony standard). Not the smaller physical size "DUO" sticks or the larger capacity MS-Pro sticks.
They are getting harder to find because they are old. Smaller sizes like 8MB or 16MB are recommended (Mega Bytes, not Giga-Bytes)
Nothing to do with "SD" cards. You can sometimes use a USB device that reads and writes SD cards as well as Memory Sticks, but they can cause problems.

You should use a Sony brand memory stick reader (around $10 to $20 USD, avoid the ones that only do the MS-Duo sticks)
OR you can use your Clie as a stick reader.

More info on memory sticks and StikZap (my program to convert regular Memory sticks into PMS sticks using a CLIE) here: http://www.aibohack.com/pms.htm, http://www.aibohack.com/clie/stikzap.htm

The aibo-life forums (http://www.aibo-life.org ) were having problems a while ago. Try again. You should be able to read the forums even if you can't post. The number of active posters has dried up. This forum has more current AIBO discussions lately, but there is a lot of information on the aibo-life.org website you should refer to.

Thanks for the info.. I still can't get onto the forum but my new computer will be arriving soon and will have it's own ip on our network so I assume if that was the problem, that will fix it!!

And I've been buying up some sticks.. so much cheaper to get the normal Sony ones and use the Clie!
