Pleo RB Questions
« on: May 29, 2011, 11:19:41 PM »

I've joined this forum to ask about this model as I consider getting my first Pleo for my birthday.

How modifiable is it? What different kinds of downloads are available for this model? What kind of paint would you need to repaint, not touch up or repair certain spots, a Pleo? Are the blue ones always male and the pink one female, while the green ones can be either or neither? Can you change it's gender?

Gender is especially important, not that personally believe one is superior or inferior to the other, but because I would like to name one Zack which is more suitable for a male.

I believe I will have more questions to ask in the future, especially when I obtain my Pleo. I am rather curious about the little fella, after all.

Thanks in advance to any replies.

What modifications are possible I cannot answer, very little has been done with the RB's, take a look in the downloads section that will give you an idea of what to expect in terms of what is currently available, most of those were designed for Ugobe Pleo's though. There is no PDK yet for the RB's but you could have a glance through the one for Pleo which I think is still available on Pleoworld. There is also no MySkit, DinoMITE or YAPT for Pleo RB (although some skits are compatible, as long as they don't require any leg sensors). The best person to talk about what is possible in terms of complex modification is Pleopet.

As for painting a Pleo you can find information here: http://bobthepleo.com/forums/index.php?topic=2077.0 and here: http://bobthepleo.com/forums/index.php?topic=2110.0 unfortunately there is no definitive answer for that one :(

Blue ones are boys by default, pink ones are girls and green ones are assigned a gender randomly, changing gender is pretty simple, I just did that to my pink Pleo to make him a boy, it took a couple of minutes, an SD card and an update from the ever helpful Degers.

Welcome to the forums and ask all the questions you like, there will always be someone happy to help :)

That's good then, but what is the particular update so I'll be ready in the future in case it's not male? I'm ordering the green since that's what I like best in case I decide not to paint it.

For the update you need to contact Degers, Pleoworld is being a little slow/cautious and haven't released it yet. You can check the gender of your Pleo using StatsRB. However if you don't go looking for it, and you only have one Pleo you won't be able to tell the difference anyway ;)

Hi Dinofreak!  :D

It's also worth remembering that PleoWorld only sells the green ones, the pink and blue were released by a sister company for the Asian market only, so have to be purchased from China.  I believe the colour is the only difference.

Some of us have tried painting our older Ugobe Pleos, who were getting very old and worn, but we're all in the early stages of learning which paints to use and how they will last.  Personally, I wouldn't suggest it as an option for a new Pleo RB - we have no idea how the paints will last, and we know that both Ugobe and Innvo have struggled to find paints that will really stand up to wear.

Comments on PDK and programming options.
If you want to write your own personalities in Pawn, the existing PDK (for V1 hardware) is compatible with the RB series. You just need an updated 'sensors.inc' file. The RB series has a few more features (voice, RFID etc).
IMHO it is more of a pain to program because of the micro-SD card (much harder to swap than the V1 SD card) and no serial/USB terminal or DinoMITE.

YAPT and MySkit can be used in an RB as well (with a little tweeking). However there hasn't been much interest in addon personalities with the RBs.

No idea if/when Innvo will release an official update, or if they will continue to improve the personality.
You can tweek a lot of the built-in personality with ChangeRB.

re: Gender
The only behavior difference is when two PleoRBs interact (male and female will romance, two males will fight, two females will talk).
The sound samples are different (males slightly lower pitch). You may not notice unless you have two genders running at the same time.
As mentioned, you can reflash the firmware to swap genders.

Thanks for the pitch-info, PleoPet. I am soon to own a male pleo RB and I was wondering how I could tell them apart when they're out of their protective clotheing.
