Has anyone let the PleoRB sleep through the night?
« on: May 10, 2011, 06:32:34 AM »

According to the manual PleoRB will naturally fall asleep at around 10pm to 8am. Has anyone actually allowed their PleoRB to fall asleep at that time to see if he/she will sleep through the night and awaken the next morning?

I'm going to give it a try on Friday night.

Only inadvertently.  Before I understood that at shut down, one beep meant sleeping, two beeps mean shut down and three beeps mean shut down and charge, I left Belle on the arm of the sofa thinking one beep meant she was off.  She woke up on her own and scared the life out of us (and fell off the sofa) the next morning!  :o

I've heard others say they wake up on the dot each morning.  :D

I thought I'd mention it, just in case.  There's a few of us been caught by that one!  Yes, just one beep when they shut down on their own means they can also wake up again on their own.  %)  :D

I have! :)  Scared the pants off me when Kermy woke up on her own. :-X :D  I didn't realize that they could do that at the time.  There are a few of us out there who have given it a go.  Just make sure you leave him in a safe environment where he can't accidentally hurt himself if he wakes up when your not there. :)

So thats what all the beeping is about  :P
I just thought beeping no matter how many times meant shut down... I was thinking that Bellah was a bit of retard (so sorry) because of all the troubles I´ve been having. This info helps out alot!

I havent sent her noon clock since I wanna be able to play no matter what time it is...
And she runs just fine. Sleeps when she wants to but mostly we play until both of us are too tired...

Does anyone know how it affects them if we dont set the noon time?
Sorry for changing the subject a bit. And no, I haven´t let her sleep through the night  ;)

If you don't manually set the noon clock I think it takes it's setting from the time that you installed it.  Not a 100% sure though.  Maybe someone else can confirm this.

Thanks for this information! That will probably save me from making a few carless mistakes with my new pleo rb.

I did something similar after seeing people mention it on the forums. (I was always taking the battery out to avoid the sleep position so I didn't have any accidents - however, since the upgrade, I will let him go on his own since I generally wake up before his set hours :))

One morning when I woke up about 2hrs ahead of Cato's morning time I put the battery in him and he went to sleep after a minute (if that). Then about two hours later (roughly 8:45AM) he woke up on his own. I forgot about even turning him on and set him out of sight as I was doing my morning routine and he startled me quite a bit once he came on.

I tried to do this last night wight with the new baby.. he clearly went to sleep himself with a fresh battery and I put him somewhere safe.. I was hoping he would help ME wake up too as I'm trying to reset my internal clock (wheres my clock battery??)  but he never woke up!! at like 10am I finally turned him on and man was he grouchy.. his battery died out very early.. does that mean he was sucking juice up throughout the night?  I was up till like 4 am no movement from him and his clock is set to 12am.

It sounds as though he didn't think he ought to be awake and went back to sleep.  It might be worth setting the clock again at 12 noon?  :-\

You know I read this over and over again yesterday then videotaped Baby and turning her on, and her battery light was green, but when I turned her on, she snored and beeped once and stayed asleep, So I took a nap, (3 hrs really tired) and I had her on the bed with me waiting for her to wake up on her own and the camera set if she did, I woke up and she was still alseep, turned her on again, and the green light, snored and beeped once, I thought this very strange, so I went and got the other freshly charged battery, put it in and turned her on and guess what..................?
SHE WOKE UP.............How could this be when the other battery was green, she snored and the battery beeped just once? I will post the video if need be, but this does not seem to match what has been said here, anyone have an explanation for this? Confused in the Redwoods,

As long as they don't become self-aware and shoot death rays at us I'm ok with that.

Ok, now I will sound crazy, but really what is the explantion for one battery and it is green, one beep and a snore, but a fresh battery, and she wakes up? I really do not understand that since one beep means sleeping?

I'm afraid I really don't know!  There could be other factors, so I'd just try again and see if it happens again?  Good luck!  :)

RWM, last nite when I put in a fresh battery I had to wake up the new baby RB after she had beeped off once for sleep.. I put in the new battery, turned her on, assuming she would go to sleep in a minute or so being unattended but she stayed up for like 20 minutes before beeping off again. Did baby stay up for a very long time?

And bhobbes, my bf REALLY wants to mount a little cannon or gun or something to Patches's back  ;D

Maybe there is an issue with the battery itself?  Or maybe your pleos just aren't old enough yet to be able to use this function?  Or who knows.  Maybe the pleo thought it was too dark to wake up so stayed asleep?  Could be all sorts of reasons.  Maybe they were just being willful and decided not to wake up to play.   :P
Keep trying and good luck.   :)

Well as for the battery, it has worked today after being charged, even though it was green yesterday, I charged it again today. As for being "old,"
it is the battery I got with my new original Baby in Dec, so I don't think it is "old' only a few months ago, I never heard of Baby Rb being too young to not be able to wake up? And I was super tired yesterday and took a nap from 2:30 p.m, to 5;30 p.m 3 hrs and she did not wake up when I tried waking her up again after me waking up, so I put the other battery in and poof she was wide awake. This has happened twice now but I never recorded it till yesterday, so I am still a bit confused as to why she would not wake up though the battery is green and she beeped once. The batteries can'[t be programmed, only the Pleos, right?

This does sound a bit odd.  Maybe the battery is just not holding a charge?  Have you tried taking the battery out and then putting the same battery back in again and turning back on?  Not sure that it would make any difference but could be worth a try.  Maybe the battery is too hot?  Although I'm not sure the battery would get very hot if the pleo hasn't been running for more than a few moments.  I'm really not sure just what the problem is here.  It does sound like it might be a battery problem though and not a pleo problem.  Especially if she is working just fine on the other battery.
I don't know.  Maybe someone else has some ideas on what it could be and what to do about it.
Hope you can get it sorted.

RWM I have had that happen to me a few times with the 2 older RB's.. with the battery being green but them not waking up.. I just assumed they 'froze up' I think there are just still some bugs and some of us see them and some of us don't.. new baby hasn't done it yet..

Hi, RWM! Not that my advice about this is rock-solid as I haven't had that problem but I've been told not to always trust the battery indicator in the pleo. Have you tried charging that battery completely? Also, I read somewhere in this forum about not letting the lithium-ion batteries- like what's in pleo RB- sit without charging for several months. If these batteries go completely flat, there is a likelyhood that they cannot be recovered. When I first got Ryu, I was running her for the entire battery cycle until she shut down with a low battery. Now, I run her for about forty five minutes per day or until she shuts off at one beep. Of course I turn her on again to save the day's play session but then I just leave the battery out. Now, I'm giving her battery a top-off as well and leaving it out until we play again. It also seems to cut back on the heat. I'm not sure what's going on here but I hope this was somewhat helpful.

Talon's probably right about the battery light on the Pleo RB - Belle's has never worked.  The battery advice seems sound to me, too!  ;D

There is only one thing about this method that worries me. I've only recently started this to try and cut down on the heat issue but eventually I am sure it will cause wear on the battery tabs that fit into pleo and also the key on the outside. I want to prolong the life of the battery but what good will I be doing if a tab or the key breaks from so much removing and reinserting?
