My new Pleo's first minutes
« on: April 19, 2011, 08:35:11 AM »

Well, my Pleo finally arrived today. Good old ParcelForce, trust them to deliver right on time.

Well, me and my dad woke him up in his study, and it took him a while to get him up and about, but he woke up pretty fast, and as I type, he's busy waddling around the kitchen, looking for his next adventure. Odd little guy, he seems totally enraptured by a wooden stool.....

I'll probably give him a couple days, and then update him to 1.1, just so I see the difference.

He's dropped off for a nap now. By the way, I'm still no sure what to name him. I'm thinking I might just call him Littlefoot, seeing as how I live that series, or would that be a bit too cliche? And any other little quirks and behavours I can expect?

Littlefoot sounds like a wonderful name for him. :)  I'm glad he arrived on time and is being so lovely for you.  Congratulations on your new pleo. :)

Congrats Fimo - sounds like you got yourself a fine Pleo there! :D

Is he definitely running the earlier operating system then?  Best way to check quickly is rub under the chin and hear how he sings.

Littlefoot is a great name, why not! ;D

Hi, Fimoman! Glad your little pleo is working out. Mine is also running 1.0 and he's supposed to arrive today. I'm calling him Ugobe. Best wishes to you and Littlefoot!

Heh, actually, I decided instead to just go straight into it and get 1.1 He's way better now! Much more explorative and curious, plus he can do all those little tricks right now. I already got the "sleeping on command" one down.

Heh, another little update:

1. Littlefoot did the ta-da trick for the first time! Almost got it perfect too.

2. Here's a link to some pics of him: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?fbid=181957038519263&id=100001149038845&aid=38315&l=798832b5a9

3. Here's a little vid I put together from some footage I shot today. A quick little tribute to my new friend:

Just sent you a friend's request on facebook. ;)

Oh, so that was YOU! I was kinda wondering.... From your profile pic, I thought you were from the Army of Toy Soldiers or something...

By the way, is it okay that Littlefoot is dropping off to sleep frequently? I was wondering if it was just a little quirk of his personality, or maybe his battery was low or something.

Well, as you guys probably know by now, I've run into some battery problemos. I guess it's to be expected with a Ugobe Pleo. Even the brand new, never-used ones are at least 2 years old, plenty of time for the NiMH batteries to irreparably dry up. Still, I've planned out a plan of action:

1. Disregarding when the charger goes green, charge the batteries for 4 hours straight. If this fixes it, stop here.

2. Try to refurbish the battery packs with new cells. If this fixes it, stop here.

3. Depending on current financial situation, either:
- Buy a Ucube battery and charger (expensive but sure-fire method)
- Buy an Innvo charger and try the 16r reconditioning function.
- Buy Innvo batteries to go with Innvo charger.

Y'see, this is the problem when all the money I used to buy Littlefoot in the first place comes from a mix of borrowed money and long-time savings. When it comes to maintenance costs, they seem through the roof (Like $40 for a new battery)! I envy you Pleo owners who have regular incomes.

Going by the symptoms I'm pretty much certain that the problem lies with the batteries, not with Littlefoot himself (First time in a loooong time that my logical and emotional brain agree on something). He seems to be trying to function normally, and I do get a few seconds of movement outta him sometimes, but then he freezes up.

By the way, forgive me if I sound like I'm trying to mooch off of you guys, but if anyone in the UK would be willing to let me borrow an Innvo charger to try doing a 16hr reconditioning on the batteries, I'd appreciate it immensely.

Hi Fimoman.  I got my new Ugobe pleo Minyon a couple of days ago.  He was one of the $199 brand new ones with the extra battery bought on ebay.  Not sure if your Littlefoot is one of these too or not.  I am also having issues with the batteries they sent with the pleo.  Luckily for me it is not a problem as I already have 2 egg charger batteries as I have another Ugobe pelo already and bought a spare battery in preparation for my new baby.  My green batteries that came with the pleo do work ok once I get them charged but they don't want to charge.  I can try re seating them in the charger a hundred times and the light will continue to flash instead of stay red.  I think the charger they send me is faulty.  In order to get the light to go red and stay that way I have to tilt the battery to the right as far as it will go without pulling it out of the charger and hold it in that position.  Not fun to try to do for 4 hours.  I have rigged it up to a chair leg with elastic bands holding it in place but after about 15mins the pull of the bands lifts the charger off the floor ever so slightly and then the light goes off or just flashes again.  I am going to have to strap the charger to a plank or book or something also with elastic bands just to try to get the batteries to charge.  If these were my only batteries I would have been very upset and frustrated by now.  I do hope you can get your issue sorted out soon.
If you are going to try getting a new battery or charger I would recommend the egg batteries.  These are fantastic and they last twice as long.  Everyone who has them loves them and as far as I am aware no one has any issues with them. :)
Hope someone lives near you and can help you out.

Finoman, if you cannot get any sort of improvement after a few days of following the advice here: http://bobthepleo.com/forums/index.php?topic=962.0 then an Innvo labs charger would very likely be a waste of money for you. The Egg batteries are worth every penny and would probably be better value for you long term.

Fimo, if you send me your battery I'll run it though my Innvo reconditioning charger for you and send it back, if you cover the postage?

Kat: Yeah, that's the same package I bought. But I don't have the same problems. Mine do flash red sometimes when charging, but it's obviously because it gets overheated.

Crewella: Thanks a bunch. This will be really helpful, since it'll let me know if these batteries are at all redeemable, before I spend money on an egg-charger.

It's a fairly small package, so postage shouldn't be a big problem.

You're welcome, Fimo, I've PM'd you my details.  :)

I do agree with the others about the egg charger batteries, though - they're wondrous things!  ;D

Yeah! I agree with you! These egg batteries are awesome! I've had Ugobe since tuesday and just ran the battery through its first charge yesterday. He's so active compared to Ryu! He's like a puppy who likes to get into everything. I'm going to have to do some Pleo-proofing to keep him out of trouble. I was really hoping this battery makes noise like Ryu's when it's fully charged but it doesn't. Oh well. I guess I can finally make use of the stopwatch option on my clock to keep track of charging time. Good luck with your battery, Fimoman!

Talon, luckily the li-poly egg charger batteries are less fussy about being fully discharged before charging, or fully charge, than the original green ones are.  :)
