Hello i'm new here, Can you help me with my problem ?
« on: March 12, 2011, 06:36:04 AM »

Hey everybody,

So i'm new here.
I have a pleo on order but that's not the problem.
I'm from Belgium and i have a big presentation for school.
I'm going to talk about PLEO.
But now...
My presentation have to take 20 - 30 min of the time.
Now I have searched on the internet and found kind of information.
But i think it is too less.
I have information about a little bit of history and all the components.
Have you guys any suggestions where i can still talk about ?

Thx

Hi Sprudel.  welcome to the forums :)
You could always talk about the differences between the Ugobe model pleo and the pleo rb (the current model being sold by Innvo).  That should keep you going for at least another 5 mins.  It is a shame you don't have a pleo yet or you could have done a live demonstration. :)  Maybe there is another member in your area who could bring one in for show and tell.

Hey! Pleo is getting bigger in our little country, woohooo!
Where are you in Belgium? There's a ugobe in Brussels, at Whazup in rue des Chartreux, and I have a rb at home in Brussels.
First of all, the best source of information would be the contact support of Innvolabs. They are very kind, I'm sure they will try their best to help you.
You could compare Pleo with Aibo, search in what the need (or the demand) was different, why it is a dino shape and not an usual pet, get information about what kind of life forms are already on the market, list the standard interactions with the owner and the possible commands, explore how the conceptors proceeded to make us feel so attached to their machines.
And yes, have a word about the bankrupcy and the saving of the production of Pleos.
And then finish by having a word about this nice community! Created just because of that little robot we all love so much!
I'm ready to help.
Good luck!

I'd definitely add some info in about the actual Dinosaur they based it on, the Camarasaurus, maybe you can discuss things about the pleo that might be realistic (like the mooing and the way they sometimes gather together like a herd)  and things that are less realistic, (like how they sometimes say 'hello' and do tricks..hehe.. and luckily they don't grow to 47 tons like the real ones!)  Heres a really good link.. it has info on the fossil they based it on, the guy who sculpted it and the pleos..  http://www.brightsideofnews.com/news/2010/1/17/from-paleontology2c-to-technology2c-to-pet-e28093-a-labor-of-love.aspx

Do you have access to a laptop? Maybe you could connect connect it to a TV.. Then you could download some good videos of Pleos interacting or look up 'Derek Dotson' the creator of the newer Pleo RB's, his videos are very informing..
Also, maybe get some videos of skinless ones (probably need to be Ugobe Pleos to find those) and some pictures you can diagram and show everyone what the parts do and what they look like underneath.  If you can't do videos, bring lots of pictures showing what they do..

If you do mention Ugobe going bankrupt you might wan to mention it was difficult to get people to understand them, Derek said when they sat in boxes, no one knew what they could do, couldn't touch them or see them cuddle you or walk or dance, and they couldn't do commercials really because everyone thought it was computer generated images. I'm sure that had a lot to do with it.

I hope your Pleo arrives soon and best of luck with your presentation...
And welcome to the forum!!!

Welcome! Hope the presentation went well (i'm assuming you did it already), but if not, I'd include how the pleo rbs are programed to really feel pain and emotion. :)
I'd also include pleo's journey back from extinction when innvo took over. Oh and early early robotic pets such as robo-chi (considered the first autonomous robot pets.) Hope to see you arround the forum!!!
