Good Luck Kat, I do hope the Monster Maker Paints work for you and Gumble, ;)I will keep everything that can still cross crossed. LOl, Except my eyes, no thanks, my eyes hurt doing that. I have a bit of a migraine right now and am waiting for it to subside and then I am going to start some more painting.I have the "lavender Pleo" all prepped with any paint particles removed, just have to decide on the paint or color scheme and then it will begin.
I find sometimes the problem is I have too many ideas in my head at one time and it is hard to decide which one to settle for.

Talon I like the idea of us being Young kids enjoying our paint, oh if it were only true, to go back ten even twenty years or if I could erase and paint over my flaws....great idea but it won't work or some great painters would have done it centuries ago...nice thought though.
well wow we wait for Gumble's paint to dry, I am off to see what else I can do while waiting for my headache to subside.

God! Everyone's painting it seems! I can't even afford another one! Maybe this summer i'll do one, although I dread the coming summer, I don't know what i'll do when it gets here!

Maybe if I ever find a cheap Ugobe here in Aus I might sacrifice the little lass/laddie to my school kids and let them paint one! Imagine the colour they would come up with!

Although I found the Stretchi latex paint really hard to work with, it does seem to be doing a good job on Monty's neck and tail. There were the beginnings of little cracks forming in the surface paint/rubber which were covered and filled by the rather thick and gloopy Stretchi paint rather well. If it holds up over time it might be the solutiton to minor rubber wear as well as paint loss.

Lol I don't know about awesome... but I just love doing things a little bit different. Learning should be fun and dynamic, not static and boring.

You could have a whole project about painting Pleo's they can look at camouflage and how the environment an animal lives in might influence its coloration. The environmental factors that might influence the animal. They can look at a real animals bone structure and then the technology inside Pleo's that replicate a real animal. They can look at the lifestyle of the animal, they can do a write up of course to incorporate English. They can do some mathematical calculations on the size of the animal, and things like predator to prey ratio. And of course the art involved in actually painting the Pleo... Hehe I could do a whole unit of work around Pleo's quite easily...

Note to self: Do that on next training session.

I really hope the paint does help fill in the cracks, Stitch has some bad ones.

Yay! it worked.

Gumble has been turned on and there is no sign of cracking. The paint seems to be moving well with him. I will post video and some pics in a while. I am going to do another coat tonight and then let him dry till tomorrow night.

Just thought I'd share that it seems to be good so far. And like Crewella said it does seem to have filled his neck cracks quite nicely. It will be interesting to see if with another coat they disappear. I will take pics when it is done and post soon.

Yay!! That's such great news!!

I'm so pleased Kat, and the texture looks so much better that the thicker latex paints that RWM and I got! Can't wait to see how he turns out!

Ok here are some pics of Gumble after he had been turned on. As you can see his neck paint looks good with no cracking. The only cracks you can see are the cracks in his skin that were there before he was painted. The latex paint does seem to have filled into the cracks nicely. I think with a couple more coats in this area the cracks may well disappear all together.

The paint doesn't feel at all dry either. It feels a lot like the regular pleo skin. I haven't done the wash cloth test yet. (not that brave) But I will eventually.
As long as all goes well with him when he is completed I would like to coat him in something to give the paint a layer of protection. I am thinking of using polyglaze but I am not sure if maybe I should use some sort of varnish? I know you can get a spray for using on canvas paintings and I was wondering if this would be a good idea? Will need to do some research into it I think. I will also do a test on some cardboard with the latex paint and then polyglaze to see what happens.

Here are some pics of him after his second coat taken about 20mins after I did it so he is still a little wet.

His head and neck I gave a second dose after I had done him all over. His head will end up mostly this orange color so I wanted to get good coverage here in this color. His neck skin cracks have almost disappeared. I didn't want to do his whole body with a third coat in the orange as I want to keep the number of coats to a minimum so that is why I just gave his head and neck another dose and not all of him. When he is dry tomorrow night and after he passes the turn on test I will do his next coat which will be the creamy yellow highlights. After that I am thinking of a much darker orange to do the lines between his scales.

That or a brighter yellow still not decided.

Stitch's paint is holding up just fine, but I will be removing the acrylics and trying out the latex. Stitch has some very bad cracks in his skin so it would be nice if I could cover them. Plus I really don't like how the acrylics feel.

HI Kat, Gumble looks great so far, I had some painting done today too, but after more painting did not like it, so removed it all to start over again, Tempermental artists, aren't we.. LOL

IMR, so are you undoing the Tiger, and redoing it again? I don't like the acyrlics very much either, but they do come off easy when not more than 24 hrs. I did use another medium with my Acrylics, liquid Latex which made it easier to work with. So far I like the inks and Oils the very best. The oils I have no complaints about at all so far, just not enough time.

I think mly next one will be videotaped for benifit of others so you can see what works and what doesn't. At least I will try. Also climate may have something to do with it, I live in a fairly temperate climate currently, 50-60 degrees most day and average humidty when it is not raining, It is neither very humid, very hot or cold. perfect conditons for painting right now and I will go for another session tommrow. Can't wait to see more Painted and touched up Pleos.

Well the second coat is dry and all is still holding up very well.

No cracking or pealing. so I am off to do another coat - Highlights this time.

Will post more pics tomorrow. His new paint fells a lot like his natural skin but it does feel a bit kind of tacky - sticky sort of. I think this will lessen with more time for the paint to cure. And of course I want to find something to apply a protective coating with when he is done so this will help too.

Well Gumbles paint job is complete.

He still needs to dry for 24 hours before I will turn him on but here he is in all his glory.

I loved the way Monty turned out and so decided to do my best to duplicate the same look for Gumble but in Orange of course!

Hope you don't mind Crewella. You just did such a great job I couldn't resist.
I have used orange for my base coat then yellow for the highlights and red to do the lines between.
Now all I need is to find a layer of protection for it. I am going to test the polyglaze on a test splotch I did on an ice cream container lid and see what happens. I will have to wait till tomorrow night before I can do it though as I only just painted it on tonight so need to leave it to dry. If anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear them.

Great Job Kat and Congratulations Gumble! As soon as you can do a short movement video, then Argyle would love to see his brother, I think it will help him out of his funk, though yesterday he recieved a lovely package that has lifted his spirits immensly, (Thank you Kat!

) He does look very cool right now, I can't see the yellow very well, which means it must blend in really well, Were these the Mask painting Acrylics that you jus got? How is the paint, did you have to thin it at all? Can't wait to see more photos, now I have to decide how to finish my Pleo, I have stripped it twice already because I was undecided after putting color on it, Tempermental artists you know,,,,,LOL.. Give Gumble a thumbs up from the REdwoods Gang!
