How about something like the Roboquad - or is that not animal-like enough?  The Wowee Robo- series must be about the next level down, as 2NZ said.

well not much animal-like, more futuristic as aibo is as well ( pleo is different due to his rubber skin ), but I'll spent some time to read whats possible to do with the Roboquad, and whats not, maybe it suits me needs.

thanks :)

well I'm afraid it didnt take too long...

From what I was reading in the manual, programming is ment was putting some movements down to create a skit.

What i need for programming is, that there is a SDK (Software Development Kit) available which gains you as a programmer more oppertunity to do stuff with the
robot, like in the case of Pleo (PDK) and AIBO (SDK).

For my needs I'd like to have a robot with an available SDK, that opens up the access to the hardware itself. E.g. in Pleos case its possible to programm/script your own personalities, like those which can be downloaded on the homepage (x-mas, halloween, etc.). Same with Aibo, its possible to gain access to his senesors and motors for the legs etc and so create your own personality/behaviors.

Unfortunately the Roboquad didnt have such accessability, just 40 slots to programm predefined movements.

I know, my constraints are very limiting the choice of robots ^^ sorry for that.

greets
Manny

I had a feeling that might be the case ................ in that case I'm afraid you might have to wait a few years!  %)

If there IS another one out there similar to Aibo/Genibo and Pleo, I'd REALLY like to know about it!  :P

Yeah right now there is nothing available for us to buy   >:( i am always Looking out for new robotic pets etc hehe

Innvo did say they where going to create other life forms so maybe they can create a meat eater dinosaur more on the scale of WowWee's Roboraptor now that would be of interest to me especially if they could improve on the movements and sensors etc etc  ;D

That’s a pretty impressive collection I have to say.
aPart from pleo the only other I have is Furby.    The rest all sound fun though.   Except for the Femisapian    that is.   When ever I’ve seen that one in action  That one just kind of disturbs me
If it’s OK to ask how many of them do you still interact with on a regular basis?

most the robotic pets i have are for my sons entertainment and at same time i am entertained by them (the 210 Aibo is all mine tho  :P) that is why i got my son the 2005 i-cybie with walk up charger .  ;D but would love it if in near future there was a much more advanced roboraptor of some kind hehe and if it was as advanced in the way i have visioned that would have to be a annother toy for me  :)

was just browsing ebay i typed in Aibo and a few other robots came up in search 1 was a robotic fish and then there was a humanoid type robot i will post the link below has any1 ever seen 1 of these ....

Very interesting though.  I wonder if there are any videos of what it can do.  I would love to see it in action. :)

Only just, by the look of it!  :P

I like the way it gets up, but won't be parting with £1,000 or so anytime soon!  :P

The vids where interesting but like Crewella I won’t be parting with £1000 either I don’t think.

Just out of interest what exactly does it look like?
I mean does it have a sort of stylised dog look like I-Cybie and Ibo?  Or is it completely out the box?

I only interact with R2D2 as he's autonomous and responds to voice commands and my pleos of course. I'm looking forward to receiving my icybie with walk up charger though.

Hmmmmmm ............... that makes r2d2 sound interesting, as I've not explored that one, and, Ozpleo, you seem to like a lot of the same things about autonomous 'bots that I do.  :D

Do you like your interactive R2D2? I saw it and thought about buying one. Along with this fancy R2D2 trash can I found.

I generally only "collect" dark side/imperial items but R2D2 is an acceptable "good guy" haha.

(My home server and network printer are all nicely "decorated" with some of my Star Wars things)

Hi,

Just found this page. It's not an animal-like robot, but still some pretty cool humanoid robot.

http://www.aldebaran-robotics.com/en/programmable

its called NAO and one is able to programm it in pyhton or c++.

For private people it's price is up to 10.000€ but there are also ways to get it cheaper. (e.g. when your in a roboCup-Team or ur joining
their research ...)

I thought, it might be interesting for you, if someone wins in the lotto, tell me :)

PS:I posted that reply in the wrong place before ... sorry for that.

I am sure I have seen a youtube video of one of these Nao bots owning a pleo and taking it to another Nao bot for training.  They taught the pleo to dance and I can't remember what else but it was quite a funny / sweet video.  The Nao do look very cool if only I was rich........ :)
