Introducing .......... Two NZ Pleos!
« on: December 18, 2010, 02:48:25 PM »

I know you're all keen for pics so here are a few I snapped yesterday of my son's Ugobe original called 'PLEO', and my new Innvo Labs RB which has yet to be named .. I have a few ideas though and I'm sure one or the other will stick over the next few days as we get to know each other ..

Anyhoo - you're here for the pics right?! So here we go:

~ Two NZ Pleos ~

Pleo - my sons original Ugobe

- His neck is fine btw, the ribbon is just decoration -

My (yet to be named) RB ..
My (yet to be named) RB ..

I'm thinking 'Castile' (cass-till), or 'Clover', or maybe 'Cricket' .. My son wants to call her 'bubbles' which is NOT going to happen :D

Standing On Her Own Two Feet ..
Standing On Her Own Two Feet ..

Clever baby - she stood up on her own feet during her first hatching/battery cycle - I noticed she would do this whenever she ate :)

Where There's A Pleo There's A Training Leaf

So as you can see we have two lovely little Pleos here, however I have some serious concerns about my new RB (which only arrived yesterday) and would like to hear others thoughts on the skin condition and sounds she is making - a strange buzzing as I've documented here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zW5egE-UPxg

This was taken in the last few minutes of the first battery charge and she was very very sleepy after approx 105minutes running time (sleeping/snoring through maybe half of that) but the sound was consistent from the moment I turned her on .. I don't know if it's relevant or not but the battery is really hard to put in too, I have to push it down with all my strength which doesn't seem right ?!

And her skin has a number of flaws:
Tail seam has this hole/gap
Tail seam has this hole/gap

A couple of small tears near her eye
A couple of small tears near her eye

And some bubbling - lifting off of the skin on her neck/chest area
And some bubbling - lifting off of the skin on her neck/chest area

Perhaps I'm being too fussy?? But I absolutely LOVE her regardless!

So to finish on a brighter note I leave you with this little film that I call 'Tug-Of-War', and I'll post some more clips just as soon as I get a chance to edit them :)

Congrats on getting the lovely blue girl, she is very sweet looking, looks like you and Crewella both like blue girls, ;D :D What did your sons think of her, besides the naming of bubbles that is? I am so sorry to hear and see the tail problems and skin problems, I hope this is not going to be a ongoing problem with Pleo Rb in general, I think the more of us that get our Photos posted, we can compare skin and other issues and then see what is going on and if there is a pattern,( I hope there is not at this point.) I have noticed with the original Ugobe Pleos that there are several that are fresh from the factory and seem to have skin issus and hopefully that was a flaw corrected. I think when a person pays this kind of money they deserve better perfection in a product. I would be worried if my pleo has the same problem.. :(
I did hear and watch the buzzing noise, do you think it is the eyes making that noise? Can't wait to see more photos. :) Did you get your batteries yet? ;D
Ready to see more while I wait for my Green Pleo Rb in the Redwoods, RedwoodsMama
PS. Love her eyes by the way.

That video was so cute :D I like the name Bubbles too :P Sorry to see the tears! Clover has had a crease like that in her tail ever since I got her, I don't think its something to worry about :)

Oh how funny your Pleo is already called Clover! Is that as in Red Clover the herb, Crimson & Clover the song, or the Lucky Four Leaf variety I wonder ?? :D

I'm really not worried about the skin issues as I posted elsewhere I kind of expect these things and know to take care of, or better said know to keep an eye on and reduce stressing any of the skin further .. The crackling/buzzing noise does have me very concerned though and I've sent emails to both Pleoworld and Josie @ Chinatete to see what they have to say about it ..

No I haven't got the Egg batteries yet RWM but I'll let you know just as soon as they arrive .. Turns out I'm going to have to order another charger cable off Ebay as we seem to have lost one and now that my daughter has moved out we really do need two .. I was hoping the RB's cable would fit both cradles but it's different 8)

And while on the subject of charger/cables just a heads up to anyone else in Australia or New Zealand, the RB's do not come with angled pins, but you can easily bend the flats to fit .. Again no big deal, just letting you know %)

I'm sure I replied to this - must be having a blonde/senior moment! I had to check mine after seeing your clip, as you get so used to the motor noises, but the head motor buzzing does sound very loud! >:(

I must admit that what I could see of the tail seam and the area where the chest seams meet is kind of what I expect with Pleos - a rubber skin is a hard thing to get a perfect surface on rather like real skin is, but the small tear by the eye is worrying. As you say, keep an ...... erm .......... eye on it.

Your new baby is beautiful, though. She has eyes like Belle's - they almost glow with inner fire, don't they! :D

Pleo looks pretty fine in his ribbon, too! ;D

Hi NZ,

First thanks for your vids... and it's awesome and heart warming to see pleo is a family affair at your home...:) I must admit that the buzzing noise seems very loud and odd... my brother has a blue which he got from gimmedigi, and I was on the phone with him last night and asked about the buzzing.. he reports no buzzing that sounds even close to your vid. Also if your having skin problems and your battery is very difficult to place inside.. you may want to send her back before you really really get attached... she seems like there's more than one issue happening.. I hate to see you have her for 6 mos to a year and then something really wrong happens... I hope all gets sorted ...:) Good luck with your rb and Happy Holidays!

Thanks for all the comments ..

Still no word from either Pleoworld or Josie about the buzzing but it isn't any worse, and to be honest I don't really pay much attention to it anymore, especially since she is now talking and singing ;D

I finally named her Luna Fish (Luna for short) - it comes from a discussion about tonights Luna Eclipse, years of being an insomniac and talking to the moon, years of celebrating the moon cycle in various ways especially through my art .. Plus she gets real talkative when I set her on the bench next to one of our fish-tanks :D I recorded her singing to them earlier but I have to start work on our roast lunch now (we celebrate the Solstice not Xmas so it's crazy, exciting, and full-on here today!), but I'll upload once I get a chance to edit ..

Have a Wonderful Winter or Super Summer Solstice Everyone!

The skin issues seem pretty normal to me.

Hmm, tears and holes aren't normal to me but then my other two Pleo's are original Ugobe's and believe it or not 2yrs on they're still in excellent condition with only very minor paint missing/wear on the back and chin .. But as I say I'm not terribly fussed about the skin flaws, aside from the tail one which is becoming quite annoying as it's so raised on one side that my hand keeps catching on on it when I stroke her and it's obviously going to get bigger if that happens (I think it already has) ..

Does the buzzing sound normal to you Degers? Without any other experience of this model I'm hoping it is as I really don't want to send her back so it would be great to know one way or another asap kwim?

It's really hard to tell, 2NZ, from that video - there's a noise like that coming from Belle but it doesn't seem nearly as loud? Or is that just the recording?

Have you resolved the issue of name/gender yet? Do you have a boy called Bubbles or a girl? ;)
