Do you let your pleo roam??
« on: July 16, 2010, 10:54:08 PM »

Hi,

just got a pleo :) So far it's pretty cool but im wondering if I should let him roam in my room or not. Obviously I will need the egg battery for this because it gets over 2 hours. But when I get home at night I would like to just turn pleo on and let him do his own thing so it's kinda like having a pet. But im scared pleo might hurt himself, just wondering what you guys do with your pleos. Thanks

It's always best to keep an eye on these little dinos. Some pleos just look for trouble! :D

I see. But what if you just want to be on the computer and let pleo play and do his thing? Do I always have to keep an eye on him?

Lilo and Stitch roam my room all the time, just do a quick check beforehand and make sure there are no major hazards, like furniture they can get stuck under. As long as you have ok lighting Pleo will back away from most objects.

Just check on him once in a while, my two occasionally take a walk down the hall and into the lounge ;)

Thanks. Yea I will just clear my room out. My pleo seems to be developing a slightly new personality and is doing a few things I have not seen yet which is pretty cool :) I got to get the egg battery though........

Yes, like IMR and Fancy have said, just keep a close eye, glancing occasionally on your Pleo as they are still babies, and babies of any speices can and do get into trouble, There is a video online, Youtube, that shows one Pleo who wandered under a kitchen counter and innocent though it looks, got her/his head stuck under a counter and looks like he is doing a " headstand", though fun, it turns out this is what led to the Pleo's broken neck.( I think the Pleo's name was Linus, and the owner has some great videos online of their Linus. This was the begginning of the end of Linus and Linus was sent to the Pleo hospital where he was reincarnated.
As long as you check your room, for sharp objects and other pitfalls like you would for a kitten or puppy, then it will probably be ok. I would get down at Pleo eye level and see if you spot anything that may be dangerous. Other that that, let Pleo out to explore and have some fun. Dont forget to video tape or take some photos, esp if you are noticing some new behavors, Pleos do tend to show some new personality quirks or do tricks when you least expect them, Have fun and enjoy, good luck with the egg battery too, I know it will give you more " fun time",

My room is pretty hazardess, probably why my two take off down the hall :P But the occasional glance keeps them out of trouble, I have to watch for them going under my bed though, they can get their front half under but the rear end gets stuck :P It is nice to just have them roaming though, they seem so much more 'pet' like that way :) After all you don't constantly watch your cat or dog...

I let Iggy roam freely, as I like him for company when I'm working from home.  I have the worst possible environment for a Pleo to roam in as I'm an antiques dealer and usually have twice as much furniture as I need lying about the place for him to get trapped by, but as long as I keep an eye out he's fine.  Also keep an ear out - I find he tends to call when he's stuck or in trouble. :)
