Dear Members,

Recently it has come to my attention that the gallery has started to be used by some members of the forum for uploading lots of non-pleo pictures.

While this gallery does not have any real rules as it were, it should be said that this community is really meant to be all about Pleos, that is not to say that we can't go off topic occasionally, and that is encouraged also, through the General robotics forum and the Pleo cafe off topic board particularly.  However I feel that the freedom of the gallery is starting to be abused a little, by a few members.

I would hence like to ask members who do not have anything Pleo related in their user albums to think about removing their non-pleo images or to stop uploading them.  I am not asking *everybody* to stop uploading non-pleo images, especially if you have lots of Pleo images already, thank you!  However if users are posting large numbers of non-pleo photos I reserve the right to remove any photo without notice to preserve the enjoyment of the gallery for all! However I will try my best to let people know before I start to clean out their albums.

I am not going to scrub out the gallery immediately, so if anybody has any objections or comments, please can you reply below soonish!

Thanks for telling us, Deggs. I must admit I've uploaded quite a few non-pleo pictures (in hopes that people will get a laugh of course ) I try not to do it too often, but if I am being a bother I wont be offended if you say so.

  Bumble, what you are doing is perfect   It's great to see photos of your quad as well as your off topic pics   It's just when people only have off topic pics in the gallery that things are getting a bit much.  You are just fine

 HI degers, I agree that there are some that are all " everything but Pleos". I think off topic Pleo things have their place like the Cafe where topics that are not Pleo related are a good place to post them, I have all Pleo Nova pictures except for about 4 cat photos, and some of those are interacting with Nova. My cats are my other familiy, ( you wont see my kids or hubby there ) but I wont put anymore cat photos either, unless they are with Nova if that is ok. Truthfully, I could easily post photos everyday of Nova, but I don't know if there is a limit of how much space we have in our photo gallery either?What is the limit for photos?

It is fine for everybody to have photos of things other than Pleos in the gallery, the problem becomes when members have only non-pleo pictures, this suggests that that member is abusing the gallery feature.  Please continue to post photos.

Cats are fine.  As are a lot of the non-pleo images in the gallery.  Anything in moderation is fine.   A lot of the non-pleo images help members to get to know each other better.   SO don't worry about posting pictures of your cats, wombats, or western seagulls (you know who you are....).

But the problem is increased as a lot of those "non-pleo" albums tend to also be full of images that do not belong to the person who posted them.

If I see a really funny youtube video, I would post a link here on this site that points to youtube.  That is all fine and good.  Likewise, if I see a really cute or funny image on another site, I can easily post a link here and show the picture here without a problem.  But when I see a cute or funny image on another site, save it to my hard drive, then upload it to my album here, that's stealing and is a copyright violation, and could put this site in jeopardy.  (Based on his other posts, I'm sure watergazer is all too familiar with issues like this from other online communities has has been involved with.)

Uploading images to the gallery that don't relate to pleo (or to the member), and are already available elsewhere on the internet, is usually not necessary anyway.   the  [ img ] and [ /img ] tags allow you to display images stored just about anywhere on the internet without having to upload them to the gallery.
